How big a rug do I need to give me the warmth and comfort I want for my bare feet when getting in and out of bed? That's a good question with multiple answers that depend on personal preferences and budget, and the Lighthouse District's own Carpets and Floors, Inc. has some answers in this blog post.

Will you be happy with a runner on each side of the bed? If yes, then a 4' X 6' to a 5' X 8' should suffice. If your bed is flanked by a couple of nightstands and you want a rug that sits under your bed but not under your night stands and projects all the way around the bed by a good margin, then you will need at least a 8' X 10' to a 9' X 12' rug. Increase the size of the rug to a 10' X 14' to a 12' X 15 ' if you want to cover most of the floor around your bed, nightstands, and bench at the end of the bed.

Remember you do not have to purchase a "ready made" runner or rug. Carpets and Floors can cut and bind a rug to your size dimensions and to the shape you want from broadloom carpet material. If you find something you like in our broadloom remnant inventory, we can construct a custom rug or runner for you at a very reasonable price.

The pass, which regularly costs $95, is a fantastic deal that will continue during construction of the Holman Highway 68 Roundabout.

The reduced price pass will only be available by visiting MST customer service locations at: the MST Bus Stop Shop in Monterey (201 Pearl Ave), the Marina Transit Exchange (280 Reservation Road), and the Salinas Transit Center (110 Salinas Street).

The deeply-discounted pass is being made available to help alleviate the congestion that is expected to result from the construction of the Holman Highway 68 Roundabout, and to encourage those who otherwise may not regularly ride public transit to try it during periods of major congestion.

In conjunction with the bus pass, the City of Monterey will provide deeply discounted parking at the Downtown Garages. When a customer shows their MST bus pass, they can purchase 20 daily entries to the parking garage for only $20. From the Downtown Garage, people can use their MST bus passes to get around Monterey, New Monterey, and Pacific Grove.

Which Monterey Wayfinding Sign Do You Like Best?

Posted on August 8th, 2016 by lighthouseave

Between now and Friday, August 26, please take this one-question survey to let the City of Monterey know which Wayfinding Sign design you like best!

The City of Monterey is working in collaboration with Hunt Design to update our Wayfinding Signs. This is a very important project as the development of an overall Wayfinding philosophy and graphic standard can provide valuable information and communicate an organized and friendly city, without distracting from its visual beauty.

The Wayfinding Sign Program goals are:

1) Direct and orient users to main destinations

2) Guide first time visitors to destinations efficiently

3) Get drivers parked near destinations and out of their cars to ease congestion

4) Support circulation between destinations for all users (drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians)

5) Unify and refresh public signage throughout the City.

We appreciate your input. Please vote on your preferred design concept!

Thanks to Associate Civil Engineer Andrea Renny, who wrote this article first published in the City of Monterey's City Focus Summer 2016 newsletter.

CFMC Creates Soberanes Fire Fund

Posted on August 1st, 2016 by lighthouseave

The Community Foundation for Monterey County (CFMC) has created the Soberanes Fire Fund to assist the affected communities in recovery efforts from the Soberanes Fire which began July 22, 2016.

The CFMC has waived all administrative fees so 100% of donations will be used for grantmaking. The funds will be used to make grants to nonprofits and organizations directly assisting individuals to meet needs as they arise. We are working in close partnership with the Coast Property Owners Association to deploy resources where they are most needed.

Grants will be made to agencies providing emergency assistance, health and human services, short term housing/rental assistance, and other immediate relief or long-term recovery support for the affected residents.

The fund will provide a trusted repository for philanthropic assets to be directed specifically for this purpose. For more information, call 831-375-9712 or visit www.cfmco.org/soberanesfire.
