Hair Salons & Barbershops Can Open for Indoor Service on August 31

Posted on August 29th, 2020 by lighthouseave

Great news for all who want a haircut, and all who work in hair salons and barbershops! On Friday afternoon, it was announced by the California Department of Public Health that hair salons and barbershops in Monterey County will be permitted to reopen for indoor services on Monday, August 31, 2020.

Please keep in mind that this announcement is as much of a surprise to hair stylists and barbers as it is to the rest of us. You're invited to call to your favorite hair professional and make an appointment, but please be patient - given the short notice, it may take our local artisans a few days to get up and running again.

To learn more about the State of California's new Blueprint for a Safer Economy, which has revised the public health criteria for loosening and tightening restrictions on business activities, and to learn what's permitted in Monterey County according to this new blueprint, please click here.

Monterey Firefighters: Wildfire Victims Relief Fund

Posted on August 22nd, 2020 by lighthouseave

The current threat from the wildfires burning in Monterey County is unprecedented and the need of Monterey County residents is huge. Now through September 5, 2020, Monterey Firefighters are collecting donations of cash and gift cards to distribute quickly, and directly, to families impacted by the fires.

Monterey Firefighters have set up a Go Fund Me page for financial donations. They are also accepting donations of gift cards from stores such as Target, Walmart, Safeway, or Lucky's, at all of the fire stations in the City of Monterey. New Monterey's Fire Station No. 12 is located at 582 Hawthorne Street.

Although it's unbelievable that we are now facing these fires at the same time our families are being impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic, it's the difficult reality for all of us. We will survive this, but if it's possible to lend some help to our neighbors at the same time, we know it will be greatly appreciated.

For more information, please e-mail Monterey Firefighter Raul Pantoja.
