Current Comics wants to confirm that we're remaining open for business with normal hours and look forward to serving your comics and Magic The Gathering (Friday night draft) needs.

We have always kept our store and restroom very clean and will continue to do so.

We regularly disinfect the common touch points several times a day, including door handles, touchscreens, counters, sink, and tables.

Stay safe and healthy and we hope to see you soon!

New Precautions at Paper Wing Theatre

Posted on March 14th, 2020 by PaperWing

Paper Wing Theatre wants to reassure our patrons that we are taking extra precautions at the theatre to ensure your safety while Monterey County deals with the novel coronavirus. As of March 14, no warnings or restrictions have been issued for small venues like ours which seat less than a hundred people. We are, however, instituting something called "buffered seating," which cuts down the amount of seats available for purchase and ensures that people can put extra space between them and another party if they choose.

Disinfectant wipes, plenty of hand sanitizing stations, and good old-fashioned soap and hot water will be readily available for everyone.

We do ask that if you are feeling sick, you make plans to reschedule your night at our theater. We will honor any previously purchased ticket for any future Paper Wing show; simply email us your preference.

We hope this answers any questions you may have. Your safety and the safety of our cast and crew is most important to us. Thank you for your continued support of local art and artists! Paper Wing's next production, Cabaret, is scheduled to open on March 20.

Find a Bike Rack in Monterey!

Posted on March 2nd, 2020 by lighthouseave

The City of Monterey boasts a number of bicycle rack locations. And now the City has published easy-to-use maps so you you can find out exactly where they are! There are two types of maps available: 1) two printable maps (one for Downtown Monterey and one for New Monterey) and 2) a single online map (be sure to click "bike parking" in the sidebar to view the bike rack locations).

Are you a business with a bike rack not listed on the maps? Please take a photo of your bike rack and e-mail it with a description of its location and address to Fernanda Roveri and the City will add it to the list.

In addition to bicycle racks, the City also offers bicycle lockers to rent at the Cannery Row Garage (601 Wave Street) and the Downtown East Garage (Washington and Del Monte St.). Lockers can be rented on a monthly ($15) or quarterly ($36) basis. Bike lockers are currently booked, but the Parking Division Office manages a waitlist - please call 831-646-3953.

Free Emergency Skills Training: Monterey CERT, Winter 2020

Posted on February 1st, 2020 by lighthouseave

The next Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) emergency training program begins in Monterey on February 22, 2020. Teens through older adults are encouraged to attend (those under 16 must be accompanied by an adult). Classes continue for 3 consecutive Saturdays, 8:15am-4:30pm. Anyone may enroll by sending an e-mail of interest - you will receive a confirmation with class details.

You'll learn about emergency medicine, fire extinguishers, disaster preparedness, shutting off your utilities, rescue, communications when phones fail, and assessing a home or workplace after an earthquake or storm.

The CERT program uses a FEMA curriculum to educate people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist their families and others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT also participates in searches for missing persons, serves as coastal spotters for persons swept out to sea, storm response, and other emergencies.
