Free Emergency Skills Training: Monterey CERT, Winter 2020

Posted on February 1st, 2020 by lighthouseave

The next Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) emergency training program begins in Monterey on February 22, 2020. Teens through older adults are encouraged to attend (those under 16 must be accompanied by an adult). Classes continue for 3 consecutive Saturdays, 8:15am-4:30pm. Anyone may enroll by sending an e-mail of interest - you will receive a confirmation with class details.

You'll learn about emergency medicine, fire extinguishers, disaster preparedness, shutting off your utilities, rescue, communications when phones fail, and assessing a home or workplace after an earthquake or storm.

The CERT program uses a FEMA curriculum to educate people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist their families and others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT also participates in searches for missing persons, serves as coastal spotters for persons swept out to sea, storm response, and other emergencies.

Start your year fresh - recharge your body, muscles and joints! Coach Masha of Boxing Strong and Ian Edwards of Five Point Palm Massage are offering a "Recharge Your Body" package, available on select days, January 13-25. Get a 45-minute private boxing training session and a 45-minute deep tissue sports massage for only $100. Book now for yourself or your special someone - appointments are available online.

Masha, founder of Boxing Strong, is a a former competitive fighter, athlete, coach, and a group fitness instructor in numerous fitness formats. She brings her boxing and training experience to her diverse range of clients with their various fitness and athletic goals. Masha works with her athletes to help them find their own physical and mental confidence through the art of boxing. For Masha, boxing is the most challenging workout she has ever done: it builds, tones, shapes, and sculpts the body, and most importantly, strengthens the mind.

While working for a physical therapist office, Ian Edwards brainstormed Five Point Palm Massage as a Pain Management Suite. The daily frind of physical therapy was missing something. It was lacking spirit and soul. In 2012, Ian traded down to a local, simple, unrefined pain management studio. Here the focus is raw deep tissue bodywork. FPPM advocates the use of our service as part of a balanced life that includes a healthy diet, sensible exercise, and a moderate intake of laughter.
