On the Beach Surf Shop is proud to sponsor the 2019 Monterey Bay Skate Jam Series! Our skate jams are designed to be a fun and interactive competitive event for riders, friends, and family alike. With a live DJ, product tosses, food, and drinks (and, on occasion, demos, games of skate, and other fun events), we invite skaters, friends, and family to come out and enjoy the day with us.

There are 3 age divisions: 9 and under, 10-15, and 16 and up. Riders will be judged based on: creativity, style, consistency, variety (in tricks and use of obstacles), and difficulty.

Sign-ups start at 9am, contests start at 10am. Normally, the event runs until 3pm (but with new events the contest could run a little later). Dates and locations are as follows:

Prime Fitness is happy to welcome Kadalyst Wellness and Physical Therapy to our studio, located at 191 Lighthouse Avenue, Suite B, in Monterey.

Kadalyst Wellness and Physical Therapy helps adults suffering with back, shoulder, and knee pain to return to exercising, provides fall risk reduction training for those with balance issues, and helps with post-operative care.

Nathan Kadlecek, PT, DPT is a Doctor of Physical Therapy, competitive powerlifter, and former collegiate athlete where he punted and place kicked for Harding University. He completed his physical therapy education at Columbia University in New York City. He is a Northern California native who is happy to be back home and serving his community.

In 2020, the City of Monterey is celebrating the 250th anniversary of its founding in 1770. To commemorate this historic milestone, the City of Monterey is calling for artists to submit proposals for a mural and sculpture. The unveiling of new and permanent public art will be a part of a series of celebrations in the summer of 2020.

The City of Monterey is looking for memorable, exceptional and timeless pieces that will acknowledge the City's past, present and future by celebrating our historic heritage, cultural diversity, and distinctive environment. Proposed sites will be gateways to Monterey, locations that are visible to millions of pedestrians and passing traffic each year. Proposals submitted must include a scale mockup, in color, with the full development of concept along with production costs.

A selection committee will review qualified proposals and make recommendations to the Museums and Cultural Arts, Park & Recreation and Planning Commissions. Sealed proposals must be received in the Colton Hall Museum, 570 Pacific Street, at Monterey City Hall by Friday, May 24, 2019 by 4pm. Our traffic in Monterey reflects the driving habits of our fellow Californians. The Lighthouse - Del Monte corridor represents the center piece of our daily traffic challenges and congestion. Our City Council has been proactive in addressing these issues. We have completed the implementation of a traffic signal adaptive system, which uses the latest technologies to conduct calculations about traffic volumes and traffic signals time every 2.5 minutes. The system does not only react to real time traffic, it is capable of storing traffic history data and from there predicting traffic flow. Our studies show that the adaptive system reduced travel time on Lighthouse Avenue by 10% through a 30% decrease in average delay, and most importantly a 32% reduction in stop and go traffic.

The adaptive system is in place on Lighthouse Avenue between Reeside and Hoffman Avenues and on Del Monte Avenue from English to Washington. Currently, we are installing the system on Lighthouse Avenue between Prescott and David. We also have implemented dozens of other tiny tweaks, which in their total will help ease the traffic flow: improvements to crosswalks, new wayfinding signs, trolley services funded by the City and the Monterey Bay Aquarium, transportation demand management, new bike lanes, etc. I encourage you to check out the various programs listed on the City's Traffic Engineering page.
