Posted on July 22nd, 2019 by lighthouseave

We know that street parking on Lighthouse Avenue in Monterey can be challenging. The great news is that there's a public parking garage located at 601 Foam Street (between Hoffman and Prescott), a short walk from all your favorite Lighthouse District shops and restaurants!

MONTEREY RESIDENTS
After 4pm, parking in the Foam Street Garage is free for residents whose zip code begins in 939 (just show the attendant your driver's license). During the day, Monterey residents with a one-year parking decal from the City (only $10) can enjoy 2 hours of free parking per day.

MONTEREY VISITORS
Not a local resident? No problem! The Foam Street Garage offers parking for a flat, daily rate. Depending on the season (and the demand), the daytime rate will vary from $8 to $18. In the evenings, that rate will drop, usually as low as $5.

DISABLED VISITORS
The City of Monterey offers all people with a valid disabled person's placard or license plate a 50% discount off the posted parking rate at the Foam Street ("Cannery Row") Garage. More information on Monterey parking for people with disabilities can be found here.

Lilify.com Is Now Live!

Posted on July 6th, 2019 by Lilify

Monterey locals Hanni and Jesse opened Lilify in 2012 after a grueling two-year renovation of a dilapidated, uninspired building with beautiful bones. They dreamt of creating an elegant, yet understated, experience that would honor the detail and authenticity of handcrafted goods and highlight the talent and passion of independent makers.

Lilify is a cultivation of their values, their aesthetic, their story, and the stories of the creatives that they spotlight.

They have been thrilled to osmose, evolve, and are ever inspired by their community and customers. They explore an expanding collection of gifts, wares, and wears while continuing to refine their perspective.

In this new season for the shop, they are beyond excited to announce the launch of Lilify online! They are thrilled and humbled to invite you to immerse in their compilation of ethically, independently made, gorgeous goods. Are you a Monterey local? Select the local shipping option to swing by the shop and pick up your purchase at 291 Lighthouse Avenue in Monterey.

Chic Event Rentals introduces our latest offering, Silent Disco, just in time for the long summer nights! You might be asking yourself, "What is Silent Disco?" It's when people dance to music, which they listen to on wireless headphones. Rather than using a speaker system, the music is broadcast via a radio transmitter, and the signal is picked up by the wireless headphone receivers worn by the participants.

People without headphones hear no music, giving the effect of a room full of people dancing to nothing. They're a perfect way to keep the party going even past noise curfews!

Our current starting price for Silent Disco is $500, which includes 50 head phones and 1 transmitter. Each additional guest (up to 100 guests total) will be an additional $5 per person. The Silent Disco transmitter can be used with an iPod or DJ system - these are not included in the price. The equipment is available for will call or delivery. If delivered, set up is not included in the price unless you have a DJ contracted through DNA Entertainment.

For more information, please check out our website, phone Chic Event Rentals at 831-375-1055, or visit our Monterey showroom at 485 Lighthouse Avenue.

The Monterey County Film Commission, located in the Lighthouse District, is pleased to announce that Erin Mansel, a student majoring in Cinematic Arts & Technology at CSUMB, is the winner of the 2019 Monterey County Film Commission's Director Emeritus Richard Tyler Film Student Scholarship Award.

Erin Mansel is originally from Los Angeles. She'll use the $2,000 award to to pay for film festival fees and outreach for her film, Screaming in Silence, which deals with the differences between the deaf and hearing communities, the acceptance of being deaf, and makes a strong statement about creating one’s own voice. Her goal is to spread awareness about the issue of deafness and knocking down barriers.

In addition, two other worthy film student scholarship applicants from CSUMB were awarded $500 each. They were Toni Erebia, originally from Fresno, who plans to use the funds for studying abroad in a British film class or for funding her Capstone project, and Nicolas Oliva, from Apple Valley, who has his film already in post-production and will use the funds to go on the film festival circuit.

For more information on the scholarship fund, please phone MCFC at 831-646-0910.
