Ma's Green Living: Save by Pre-Ordering Items!

Posted on September 7th, 2015 by lighthouseave

Ma’s Green Living is excited to roll out our Pre-Order Buying Club! What is that, you ask? It’s a buying club you can use to place your order each month, with no subscription or commitment needed. This allows us to offer more items at a less expensive price. It also saves on shipping costs and the waste of fossil fuels when we place multiple orders. If this is successful, we’ll be able to offer even more items in future!

Please check out our website for a list of items available for the Pre-Order Buying Club. (Also available, but not on the list, is the complete line of Tom's Toothpaste as well as many body care products such as natural deodorants.) For more information, and to find out the deadline for pre-ordering for October delivery, please phone us at 831-373-3720.

Green Chalk Contemporary Presents Seiko Perdue's "Press and Twist"

Posted on September 7th, 2015 by lighthouseave

Green Chalk Contemporary art gallery is pleased to present Press and Twist, a monumental solo exhibition by Seiko Atsuta Purdue, September 12 - October 31, 2015. Widely shown in the United States, Canada, and Japan, this show marks Seiko’s California debut. Everyone is invited to join us for a reception on Saturday, October 3, 5pm-8pm!

Since moving to the United States, Seiko has been exploring the connections between Japanese and American culture. Challenging notions of beauty and power, her work uses Japanese craft processes to explore the world at large. By substituting traditional materials for contemporary symbols of destruction, innocence, and violence, it poses powerful questions about the implications of global culture.

Press and Twist includes the installation Berry Grove, which uses a contemporary shibori (Japanese tie-dyeing) process and handmade paper pieces created in Fukui, Japan during her recent residency. It also includes her Bullet Cloth series, which is highly influenced by everyday gun incidents in the US. In Japan, it is rare for people to own firearms, so the fact that she is able to own guns and bullets in the US came as a shocking cultural difference.

Green Chalk Contemporary art gallery is open Tuesday - Saturday, 1pm-5pm and by appointment. For more information, please phone Gail Enns at 831-718-7232.

Military Dental Coverage

Posted on July 13th, 2015 by smilebeautiful

At Lighthouse Family Dentistry, we are proud to serve many military families stationed at the Naval Postgraduate School and the Defense Language Institute. If you are a military spouse or dependent looking for a dentist that accepts military benefits and insurance, you are welcome to come in and see us at Lighthouse Family Dentistry.

Most of the military families are covered with Metlife. Active military have their own dental care providers, so we rarely see them. However, Metlife is issued for the spouse and/or dependents, and we see them frequently in our office. As a general rule all should have their check-ups, etc. with branches of the service; they are required to show that they are “caries free” prior to foreign travel.

Some of the dental services that military families can utilize include: dental exams, teeth cleaning, fillings, crowns, and more, depending on insurance coverage.

To get started with a dental exam, contact Lighthouse Family Dentistry for an appointment. Lighthouse Family Dentistry is conveniently located near the Private Bolio gate of DLI at 251 Lighthouse Avenue in Monterey. Contact us at [email protected] or (831) 373-0478.
