Green Chalk Contemporary is proud to present an exhibition March 7 - April 25 entitled This Phenomenal World, featuring the art of Robert Brady, Linda Connor, and Richard Whittaker.

What do you think of this phenomenal world? As you go about your day-to-day life, do you find that the unique qualities of the world are overwhelmed by the mundane? One of the things art can do is open our eyes to something that was hiding in plain sight. The drawings, sculptures, and photographs in this show remind us to open our eyes…and they may even stop us in our tracks, capturing a sense of the mystery of things. We invite you to get personal and explore what “phenomenal” means to you!

The entire community is welcome to join us at the gallery for an opening reception and gallery talk with Whittaker and Connor on Saturday, March 7, 6pm-8pm.

Green Chalk Contemporary art gallery is open Tuesday - Saturday, 1pm-6pm and by appointment. For more information, please phone Gail Enns at 831-718-7232.

Cozumel is known in the scuba diving industry as one of the best scuba diving locations in the world. Teaming with schools of fish and boasting amazing view, Cozumel offers the avid scuba diver a vast playground. It’s surrounded by the largest reef system in the western hemisphere, with abundant underwater sea life and brilliant colors. Although it is a diver’s mecca, even after decades as a popular vacation resort it remains a serene, quiet, and undiscovered piece of paradise. The climate is subtropical.

Cost of double occupancy is $1,895, and cost of a single is $2150. The fee includes: roundtrip airfare from San Francisco; 7 nights accommodations at Scuba Club Cozumel; all meals; 5 days of 2-tank morning boat dives; unlimited tanks for shire diving; complimentary gear locker (divers need to bring their own padlock); and hotel taxes. Cost for a non-diver is $1,650.

A $400 non-refundable deposit secures your spot on this trip. Price is subject to change until paid in full. Balance due 60 days prior to departure. For more information, please visit our website or phone us at 831-372-1685.

Green Chalk Contemporary: Mai Ryuno's "Moments"

Posted on January 20th, 2015 by lighthouseave

Green Chalk Contemporary is proud to present an exhibition by artist Mai Ryuno entitled Moments, January 24 - February 28. The entire community is welcome to join us at the gallery for a talk by the artist and a reception on Friday, February 20, 5pm-8pm. Snacks and wine will be served.

Moments, part of Mai Ryuno’s ongoing project entitled Ancestral Observations: Demystification of Magical Powers, includes drawings and prints that indicate the times and conditions of past and future disasters in California and Japan. Since the moment when the huge 2011 earthquake and tsunami hit her home country of Japan, Ryuno has become acutely aware of every living moment. Spontaneity is the hallmark of her work: accidental happenings in daily life affect her creative process, creating a thread of unexpected and spontaneous change throughout her pieces.

Mai Ryuno received her BA from Doshisha University, Kyoto, Japan and her MFA from San Francisco Art Institute. She has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions throughout California and Japan. This is Ryuno’s second solo exhibition at Green Chalk Contemporary. Currently, she teaches drawing at Hartnell College and printmaking at Monterey Peninsula College.

Green Chalk Contemporary art gallery is open Tuesday - Saturday, 1pm-6pm and by appointment. For more information, please phone Gail Enns at 831-719-7232.

Updated Monterey County Movie Map Published by MCFC

Posted on January 15th, 2015 by lighthouseave

Monterey County Film Commission, located in Monterey’s Lighthouse District, is pleased to announce a newly-updated Monterey County Movie Map! This guide, for locals and tourists alike, puts the spotlight on some of the more than 200 movies that have been filmed in this area, offering background information on feature films that have shot scenes here and directing visitors to some of the film sites. The rack-style brochures were underwritten by the Monterey County Convention & Visitors Bureau, which plans to place them in their Monterey Visitor Center at 401 Camino El Estero.

Karen Nordstrand, MCFC’s director of marketing and film production, notes that film production on-location in Monterey County brings an average of $3 million into our community each year. The film commission’s mission is to attract and assist movie productions as well as TV shows, commercials, travelogues, videos, fashion catalogs, and new media.

Films highlighted in the map include “Basic Instinct,” “East of Eden,” “Rebecca,” “Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home” in which the Monterey Bay Aquarium was featured, and Clint Eastwood’s “Play Misty for Me.” Elements of the map will be available at MCFC's website.
