Free Emergency Skills Training: Monterey CERT, February 2026

Monterey residents! Learn about emergency medicine, fire extinguishers, disaster preparedness, shutting off your utilities, rescue, communications when phones fail, and assessing a home or workplace after an earthquake or storm.

The next Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training program begins on February 7 and continues on three consecutive Saturdays. Anyone may enroll by sending an e-mail - you'll receive a confirmation with class details.

Bamboo Reef Dive Shop presents a NAUI First Aid and CPR Class for ages 15+ at our Monterey shop on Tuesday, September 3, 6pm-10pm. Register on our website.

You'll learn how to perform CPR, use an automated external defibrillator (AED), and become familiar with the signs and symptoms associated with heart attacks and respiratory arrest.

Located at 191 Lighthouse Avenue, Monterey Core Fitness is a new women's boutique gym and fitness studio founded by Allison Johnston that focuses on functional strength training, resilience, and community connection.

No Fireworks in Monterey

Fire season is here! The City of Monterey asks that you reduce the risk of wildfire by NOT using fireworks when celebrating the 4th of July.

In Monterey, you may be subject to a $1000 fine if you are caught using any type of fireworks (including those marked as "safe and sane"). Thank you for enjoying the holiday safely and responsibly.

Monterey Trolley Returns May 23, 2026

The Monterey trolley has returned! This free service will operate May 23 - September 7, 10am-6pm daily. Trolleys run every 10-15 minutes. Look for the green MST Trolley signs to board along the route .

Park in the Downtown Monterey Garage (340 Tyler) or the Cannery Row Garage (601 Foam) and get a free ride to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Cannery Row, the Lighthouse District, Downtown Monterey, and Old Fisherman's Wharf.

Ballot Drop Box at Monterey Public Library for 2026 Elections

The California primary election is June 2, and it's time to vote! A permanent Monterey County Elections ballot drop box for voters is installed at Monterey Public Library, available 24 hours a day until 8pm on June 2. The County will empty it on a regular basis. Just drop your ballot safely in the box at 625 Pacific Street.

New Lighthouse District Banners Installed, April 2026

The New Monterey Business Association (NMBA) is excited to announce that Lighthouse District street banners have been installed by the City of Monterey along Lighthouse Avenue in New Monterey.

Community Town Hall: Measure D and Stormwater Fee

The City of Monterey is hosting a Community Town Hall 6pm-7pm at Hilltop Park Center to discuss the 0.375 cent sales tax measure and the flood protection and clean stormwater initiative that will be voted on at a special election on June 2.

City of Monterey staff will provide a 10-15 minute presentation, then residents will have time to ask questions.

Film Commission Awards 2026 Scholarships to Julian Sumano & Hanna Smith

Congratulations to Julian Sumano, winner of the $2000 Monterey County Film Commission's Director Emeritus Richard Tyler Film Student Scholarship Award, and Hanna Smith, recipient of a $1000 runner-up award!

Both Julian and Hanna are students in the Cinematic Arts and Technology Department at California State University, Monterey Bay.
