Grace Jiu-Jitsu, located at 636 Lighthouse Ave, is happy to announce we reopened our studio on July 1. Our decision follows the county’s announcement that gyms that adhere to strict health and safety guidelines may open for business.

Before July 1, we launched a full Zoom program with classes six days a week, and it’s been going great! Now we're beginning Phase 2 by reopening our school for in-person, non-partnered classes, while we continue to offer classes on Zoom. Curious about our studio and our new protocols? Monterey Bay Aquarium is so excited to reopen and to welcome back visitors. . . unfortunately, that day won't come as soon as we had hoped. A new public health order effective July 8 requires indoor zoos and museums to close for a minimum of three weeks. This means the Aquarium will not be reopening on July 13 and will not reopen until it is deemed safe by our county and state officials.

We know you might be disappointed, and we are, too. But the safety of guests, staff, volunteers and animals remains our highest priority. We hope to sea you soon!

The City of Monterey has partnered with Food Bank of Monterey County to help residents in need. Reservations are available for this month's Family and Senior Produce Distributions on July 13, 20, and 27, 10:30am-11pm at Dennis the Menace Parking Lot, 777 Pearl St.

Due to Covid-19, this is a no-contact drive-thru program and reservations are required. For more info and to register, click here.

As of Wednesday, July 8, for at least 3 weeks:

1) Bars, breweries, pubs, and brewpubs (including bars located at indoor and outdoor food facilities) must close both indoor and outdoor operations.

2) Restaurants must close indoor seating to customers. All restaurants may continue to use outdoor seating and offer take-out and delivery.

3) Wineries and tasting rooms must close indoor services to customers.

4) Family entertainment centers and movie theaters must close indoor services and attractions to customers. They may continue to provide outdoor services.

5) Zoos and museums must close Indoor attractions to visitors, but they may continue to operate outdoor attractions.

6) Cardrooms must close indoor services to customers.

Today, we bring you a photo behind the scenes at American Burger, a family-run business that's been bringing food, fun, and smiles to New Monterey with their classic burgers since 2009.

American Burger is now open for take-out, delivery, and no-contact curbside pick-up at 738 Lighthouse Ave. If you're stopping by the restaurant, be sure to wear a face mask like these heroes in the kitchen.

As of July 1, the City is enforcing the mandatory wearing of face coverings in business districts, both inside and outside, with a fine of $100 for the first violation. All people over the age of 12 must wear a face covering.

Residents and visitors to the business districts are also required to maintain a six foot distance from others who are not members of the same household.

Retail in Monterey's Lighthouse District is now open for in-store shoppers, but there continue to be additional shopping options available during the pandemic. We invite you to check out our newly-updated SIP Mall !

Recently, Monterey County Health Department has lifted more business restrictions. We are happy to report that nail salons, tattoo parlors, fitness studios, skin care spas, wax bars, and massage therapy studios are now permitted to open for business.

And remember: you can be a hero! When visiting the Lighthouse District, please maintain physical distancing and wear a face mask.
